Practice etiquette
-
General
- Look before entering the pool feet first.
- The coaches are there to help! Let them know if you want extra stroke correction.
- Be respectful towards your teammates, coaches and pool equipment.
-
Lane etiquette
- Do not push off the wall in front of another swimmer who is about to do a turn or push off
- Keep the ends clear; Always leave the middle third of the wall clear for turning or touching the wall.
- Circle swim; ensure that everyone in the lanes knows which way.
- The slowest lane (lane 1) is near the change rooms, and they progressively get more advanced (up to lane 6).
- Swim in order of speed. e.g. fastest backstroker may be slowest in breast
- If you join a lane after the workout has started, make your presence known. Unexpected newcomers can cause collisions.
-
Follow the workout
- If you are late, start at the point where your lane-mates are.
- Follow the workout and add equipment as needed. Talk to your coaches about modifications and injuries.
- If for some reason you cannot do the set as described (ex: due to injury), be extra-aware of your lane-mates and stay out of their way.
-
Passing
- No passing mid-lane.
- If you need to pass, indicate this by touching the foot of the swimmer ahead of you and they will allow you to pass them at the next turn.
-
Use the clock!
